Share and Care
This very helpful and worthwhile local voluntary organisation is a group of about 30 local volunteers, formed with the aim of providing practical help to people who can find no one else to turn to. The sort of tasks that Share and Care's volunteers are often called on to do are to collect prescriptions, to shop and do other errands for sick or housebound people, and to give carers a break by sitting with a sick person.
Share and Care receive many requests for transport. While they do not take people to hospitals for outpatient appointments, or for admission or discharge, they often provide transport (for those with no other way of getting there) for visiting a sick relative in hospital.
They also take people to the Surgery, Dentist, or Optician, for appointments if they cannot get there any other way, and to visit relatives. A charge is made to cover costs when transport is provided, but all other help is given free.
